Küreselleşen Kentte Tüketim: İleti-ş-im Dergisi Makale Çağrısı

“Sanayi çağı, kentlerin baş döndürücü gelişimini de beraberinde getirmiştir. Kent, hiç olmadığı kadar hareketli, çeşitli, çok işlevli ve çatışmalı bir toplumsal mekân haline gelmiştir. Aynı zamnda, burjuva estetiğinin en rasyonelleşmiş izdüşümlerinin bütünleşik bir sistem olarak ortaya çıkışı yine kentlerin hızlı büyüyen karmaşık dokusu içinde mümkün olmuştur. 20. Yüzyıl boyunca, sanayi kapitalizminin yerini finans ağırlıklı bir üretim ilişkileri bütününün almasına tanık olduk. Kentler, özellikle son otuz yıldan bu yana, bu kez Dünya ölçeğinde bir dönüşüme sahne olmaktadırlar. Artık kentte sanayi çağında olduğundan çok daha akışkan, değişken, hızlı yapılıp bozulan, parçalılanmış, süreksiz, kısa vadeli, bağlamdışılaşmış yapılar ve üretim ilişkileri bütünü söz konusudur. Üstelik kent, beşiği olduğu finans kapitalizmi ve onun üretim düzlemi olan hizmetler sektörü ekseninde yeniden örgütlenirken, artık eski toplumsal hiyerarşiler geçerliliklerini yitirmektedirler. Yeni toplumsal katmanlaşma, varoluş mantığını, sanayi kapitalizminde olduğu gibi üretim olgusunda bulamamaktadır. Zira finansın esnek, akışkan ve parçalı bağlamında, üretim, en sabitlenemeyen kerteriz haline gelmiştir. Üretimin görünmezleştiği bu toplumsal ortamda tüketim, çok daha sahici bir kimlik sağlayıcı haline gelmiştir. Artık bütünsel ve tutarlı bir tarihsel özneye dayanmak zorunda olmayan kimlik kavramı, önemli ölçüde tüketim üzerinden sürekli olarak kendini yeniden kurmaktadır. Tüketim, bu bağlamda, sahnesi kent olan bir kimlik stratejileri kaynağı haline gelmiştir. Kültür, eğlence, tüketim, kurum ve aktörleriyle birlikte, sürekli etkileşen yeni bir toplumsal ilişkiler sistemi haline gelmektedir.

Bu nedenle İleti-ş-im dergisi olarak kent ve tüketim arasındaki bu ilişkiyi, küresel finans ekonomisi arkaplanında, ancak somut görüntüler üzerinden değerlendirecek bir çeşit mozaik tablo niteliğindeki bir özel sayı tasarladık. Ana başlığı Küreselleşen Kentte Tüketim olan bu özel sayıda, kentin sanayi-sonrası kapitalizm bağlamındaki dönüşümünü, somut olguların (alış-veriş merkezleri, kültür kurumları, kültür ve tüketim üzerine söylem üreten mecralar, kentsel mekân ve kimlik ilişkisi, vb.) bir araya getirilmeleriyle oluşacak bu tablo, kuşkusuz, bu özel sayıyla tamamlanmış olmayacaktır. Bununla birlikte, mümkün olan en çeşitli kesiti oluşturmayı arzu ediyoruz. Kent-tüketim ekseninde yapılmış görgül araştırmaların verilerini içeren çözümlemeler, özel sayıya peşinen davetlidirler.

Euromed 2012 – International Conference on Cultural Heritage

The International Conference on Cultural Heritage (CH) brings together researchers, policy makers, professionals and practitioners to explore some of the more pressing issues concerning cultural heritage today. In particular, the main goal of the conference is to focus on interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary research on tangible and intangible Cultural Heritage, the use of cutting edge technologies for the protection, restoration, preservation, massive digitalization, documentation and presentation of the CH content. At the same time, the event is intended to cover topics of research ready for exploitation, demonstrating the acceptability of new sustainable approaches and new technologies by the user community, SME’s, owners, managers and conservators of cultural patrimony. Several organizations have decided to join together in order to create an optimal environment for the discussion, explanation of new technologies, exchange of modern ideas and in general to allow the transfer of knowledge between a maximum number of professionals and participants during one common time period. Creative Connectivity and the Making of Place

Arte-Polis 4 builds on the successes of previous Arte-Polis international conferences and design workshops in 2006, 2008 and 2010. Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) is proud to present in 2012 an international conference and workshop with the theme “Creative Connectivity and the Making of Place: Living Smart by Design”. This biennial event is an initiative of the Architecture Program at ITB’s School of Architecture, Planning and Policy Development in collaboration with other creative institutions. Besides referring to a network society, connectivity with regards to living smart by design can be linked to creatively connecting different actors in society (community, business, government, academia); the past, present and future; culture, economy and place; the collaboration between art, media and technology; theory and practice; the informal and formal; education, research and industry; as well as the design, planning, and management of livable environments.

CONFERENCE TRACKS

The peer-reviewed Arte-Polis 4 International Conference will critically address the theme “Creative Connectivity and the Making of Place: Living Smart by Design” through a number of diverse Tracks, such as:

New Article by Ozlem Hesapci, Yonca Aslanbay and Vehbi Gorgulu: ‘Self-Regulation of Advertising in Turkey’

The new collaborative article of Ozlem Hesapci, Yonca Aslanbay and Vehbi Gorgulu was published by Journal of Yasar University (Joy), with the title, “Self-Regulation of Advertising in Turkey: The Changing Industry Dynamics. According to the authors, “The study serves an important up to date analysis of these challenges, transformations, and evaluates reflections through the self-regulatory mechanism of advertising in Turkey.” In order to address these challenges, the paper provides first a comprehensive review of the literature on advertising ethics and analyzes the distribution of complaints submitted to the Turkish Advertising Self Regulatory Board (TASRB). The analysis is based on a content analysis of the complaints received by TASRB among various industries over regulation codes, between the years 2006-2010. Complaints were coded for 19 industries over 26 codes for advertising practice and categorized for the complaint submitting party, as consumer or competitor. The results revealed an increase in the number of complaints. When the most complaint receiving industries; telecommunication, cosmetics/personal care, cleaning supplies, and IT were analyzed, findings reveal that complaints received by TASRB consistently placed under the codes of truthfulness, substantiation, and denigration.

Special Issue of Parallax: Edited and Contributed by Zafer Aracagök

We are pleased to announce the publication of the special “Resonance(s): Deleuze and Guattari” issue of Parallax (Routledge, indexed in AHCI & SSCI) edited by Dr. Zafer Aracagök of VCD Department, Faculty of Communication. Aracagök both edited this issue of Parallax which is one of the most eminent academic journals in the fields of continental philosophy and cultural studies, and also contributed with an “introduction” and an article, entitled, “Desonance”. As some will remember, Aracagök had organised the first international conference on Deleuze and Guattari in Turkey, namely, “Resonance(s): A Deleuze and Guattari Conference on Philosophy, Arts and Politics” in Istanbul Bilgi University in 2010. The LSE Media and Communications Department invites abstracts for papers on ‘Cosmopolitanism, New Media and Protests’, to be presented at our fifth annual PhD Symposium on 15 June 2012.

Research students from across disciplines in the social sciences are welcome to apply.

The deadline for submission of proposals is Monday 20 February 2012.

ECREA Symposium 14th-15th of June 2012 | University of Tuebingen – Germany Call Advertising has been appreciated as a growing demesne within the field of communication and media research. Obviously, the assumption that advertising is one of the driving forces within western media systems can be called a mainstream topic within communication studies. Yet, research concerning this mainstream topic is still lacking orderly continuity as well as a systematic approach within the field of communication and media research. From this vantage point the symposium addresses research areas, ranging from advertising communicators, media, messages, to audiences, and effects. What are the challenges of advertising and its research in the 21st century? What might be the USP of communication and media scholars’ advertising research? Which kind of origins mark communication and media scholars’ point of departure? What are key differences and similarities related to advertising research in Europe? The first symposium of the Advertising Research Temporary Working Group of ECREA welcomes contributions that address these questions from a variety of research perspectives. Object of this inaugural symposium is a synoptic view of the current status of advertising research in communication and media research on an international level. Geçtiğimiz yıl I. Disiplinlerarası Medya Çalışmaları Lisansüstü Öğrenci Konferansı’na büyük bir katılımla ev sahipliği yapan İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi Medya ve İletişim Sistemleri Programı, II. Disiplinlerarası Medya Çalışmaları Lisansüstü Öğrenci Konferansı’nı 5-6 Mayıs 2012′de daha da büyük bir katılımla gerçekleştirmeyi hedefliyor. Konferans, bu yıl da sosyal bilimler alanında yüksek lisans ve doktora çalışması yapan öğrencileri bir araya getirerek bilimsel araştırma ve fikirlerini paylaşabilecekleri akademik bir platform oluşturma amacıyla düzenlenmektedir. Konferans süresince tüm katılımcılar arasında verimli bir tartışma ortamı yaratılarak fikir alışverişi ve etkileşime imkan sağlamak ve bu tür faaliyetlerin yaygınlaşmasını sağlayacak yeni olanaklar yaratılması amaçlanmaktadır.
